Part 8 - Our Mission 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Home with God – Part 8
from 29 Jan 2008

Further discussion on journeys and pathways – what is our Mission?

Remember these:
3. You cannot die against your will.
4. No path back home is better than any other path.

It’s time to take a “critical” look and introduce some more questions …

“Home with God” says that all souls come to earth with specific things to accomplish. Some take longer than others, some have a more arduous time of it, but eventually, in their own time, all souls complete their work. It also says that “consciously” most of us don’t know what that work is.

When we “think” that we came here with a purpose, a task, a reason to be, we assign ourselves some level of importance. We didn’t just “arrive” without a reason. There must be something we are supposed to do. Otherwise, why would we be here?

What’s the difference between someone who “knows” what their mission in life is and those that don’t or simply don’t care or think there isn’t a mission. Are the people that don’t have a mission, any less aware of who they are. Can we say that if you don’t know why your soul brought you here, you can’t possibly be living the life you were suppose to live. If you continually fight against what life brings you, are you fulfilling your souls plan? Is it possible to die while you are still fighting against your soul’s direction? I think that people die all the time, having no idea of a purpose, a mission a goal, a state to achieve. If you have no “conscious” clue of what is going on with your life, can you be “learning” or growing or experiencing or feeling a desired process?

When we look at how the majority of people live their lives, we see very repetitive cycles of work, shop, sleep, work, shop, sleep … Everyone taking the same wide, straight, well-trodden path, together. If there is a path to take, surely this would be the “easiest” of all.
Some people break this cycle on an annual basis with a holiday that they actively plan and think about. Some people break the cycle at weekends and take a break or do a sport or read of book or go fishing. Some people break the cycle every evening by having a wide variety of interests and pastimes to occupy their minds and bodies. How many of all these people are spending time considering what their soul wants?

How can our soul “want” anything?

If our soul has a plan to accomplish something while we are here and a finite time available to do that (0 to 110 years), and we are not consciously working with our soul to make that happen, what are the chances that everyone, every-time, manages to achieve that goal, before they die?

Could it be possible that a souls “plan” for its next incarnation into physicality might be so limited that it might become ecstatic with Joy if it could simply make one conscious connection, one glimmer of awareness that the now divided parts of “self” are really one? If it could just get you to read that one book, recognise that one “coincidence”, think about the death of a friend in a new way, would this be enough of a step forward to be a souls goal for a whole life-time?

Let’s assume that a soul longs to experience the unquestioning love of another human being. Two souls work together and manage to direct their “unconscious” bodies to come together and they “recognise” each other. They are blissfully happy. How long should this go on for, before the souls can say they have accomplished their goal and don’t need to “stick-around” any longer? If they had their goal experienced early, they woke-up quicker than expected, wouldn’t that be a great opportunity to just continue the process and to see just how far this new found awakening could go, continuing to grow with every last breath. Not tied to any particular outcome and not requiring any particular experience. The soul would grow its awareness in whatever direction happened to present itself.

This seems to me to be a logical position. So, how does that fit with the “Home with God” view that “Each passage is ended when the agenda or the mission of that particular passage has been completed.” (page 32). When we set a goal and then work hard to accomplish it, we generally just set another one straight after (may be we take a bit of a break in between). If the soul came to earth with just a single goal and “had” to achieve it, that would be setting things up rather unnaturally. It is more likely that for most of us the goal would be a whole bunch of smaller potential goals that we would be happy to meet some of during the time available – let the chips fall where they may and pull off some of the experiences and grow the awareness in whatever environment that shows up.

For a person that is very well in-tune with their connection to their soul and the “source” they may well have a specific mission. May be it was to bring a greater understanding to humanity of who they are. This sounds like a mission that could go on forever. That body isn’t going to be able to cling on to life indefinitely, so when the body is tiring and failing to function, the soul and in this person, the mind, will accept that they have done their work. They understand that death is not the end. That there is more growth to come. That within the boundaries that existed, they have achieved all they could. They would be content that they were complete, even though, from the outside, it might look like there was still much more to do.

If this was a young person, occupying a body with a disease, they may show great strength of will and overcome the disease and show the world how it is possible to accomplish great things that may even appear to be scientifically impossible. After such a process, the soul may well think that it had “done enough” in this cycle to allow this body to pass back to the elements and die.

So, what about the “average” soul. The type that represents the majority, the norm or the mean. The one that isn’t really conscious of anything to do with its divinity. The one that is struggling just to get through life the best way it can. Is that a valid “mission” for a soul, to just get through the best you can? How long do you have to do that for, 10 years, 20 years, 90 years, or may be until you say “I’ve had enough”? What if you never actually say that, not even to yourself. I can see that most people would never get to the point of “understanding” who they are. Not even the ones that are Religious and have been raised to accept God and not fear death. They have an easier life because they have handed over control to a “higher” source. But is it part of their mission or is it part of their earthly conditioning, or may be both?

I think that there is a problem here. When we say that souls come with a mission or a plan, that they choose the best location for that plan to grow, the parents they need, the culture that best fits, the skills that they will need, all is well with this, sometimes. But, what about when it’s not.

It’s like saying to a beggar on the street “why did you choose to live like this?”, or to someone in a village in Afghanistan “why did you put yourself in this burning house?” The “viewer” could say that the beggar is a result of “our” life choices and that they will continue to be there as long as we, the big group, allow them to. That their soul is providing a “service” for the rest of us. It’s us that need to learn something from it. And, this is undoubtedly true, at some level. But are all beggars enlightened souls “choosing” to provide us this mirror of a service. I think not. I think that may be the majority of them are very ordinary people that have been pushed and kicked by society until they end up where they are.

Everyone’s ideas about life are true. Each individual perspective creates the corresponding perception. The explanation that we mentally create, in order to explain what is happening has to allow for ALL possible perceptions. All outcomes have to be valid. If we say that we “choose” our life experience or that we come with a mission, then there has to be a way for that to happen for less self-realized souls, not just for the one that is well connected. What is the process that creates both understandings?

The Process is the same, even if the perceived results are different. The Geometry of the universe is constant, even though it creates an infinity of possible outcomes in all directions. God is infinite and never changing. God is the law and process that governs the way things change, continually.

Given the infinity of time and space, all potential will be realized. Given a limited cycle of life, it is not required that any potential be realized. We are familiar with the idea of everyone being born with the potential to achieve great things. May be they are not born equal exactly, but there are enough amazing stories to show that given a level of will and a strong mission or goal, even people born in poverty and desperation can create miracle lives.

Are these “special” souls or do they have something physically different to other people. Hormones or genes or some other quirk of birth may give them the edge. They are often recognised as being different from their brothers and sisters from an early age.

Could their soul have created a body that had that special something, even though they often have physical or mental disabilities as well. It wouldn’t be much of a lesson to the other people in a village if you had to be a highly evolved soul in order to get out of the village and create a bigger life, at least not from a single-life-time point of view. But in a multi-life-time point of view, having “special” souls turn up in un-special places would create a very motivating force, as with the story of Jesus, for example.

If you have read “What God Wants” by Neale Donald Walsch, you will know that God neither wants nor needs anything. God is the totality of all things and lacks nothing. In the same way, our soul is an “individuation” of God, a part of God, an expression of God, and therefore doesn’t need anything either. It doesn’t need a mission and it doesn’t need to complete a mission to feel fulfilled.

So, is there some other part of us that might like to have a mission? Well, our ego might well like to have a mission. As I inferred at the beginning, we like to feel that we have some “use”, that we are “useful”, that we have a purpose, a reason to be here. We don’t like the idea that we might just be a random manifestation of life.

But, isn’t the ego a function of our physical experience, something that will disappear when we die? Is it part of our mind, part of our mental processing? If it is, what else might like to have a purpose, no matter how tiny?

What about our consciousness? Is this part of our eternal self or is it a generated aspect of our physical being?

Home with God contains the following statements:

“you can die gracefully and gratefully, knowing consciously that you are complete”. And, “you can not die against your will”.

What is it that moves through physical life as “me” and then moves through spiritual life as “me” and then back again to the physical. If my soul is always complete and a “chip off the old block” – God, what it that is “evolving” and how does it keep track of where it is and how does it “choose” where to be next? Is it thinking and what is it thinking with? Can it make plans and who does it plan with? Do they all sit round in a group and who is in and who is out of the group, and who decides?

Does it matter if you don’t know the answers to these questions?
Is this why most people never even think about these kinds of issues – you know you can’t prove any of it and most people “get-by” just fine, without.

Are you expecting an answer here?
Be Grateful, be Happy.

Just a small comment on one point. "We cannot die against our will" is a bit misleading. While it's true we have to be clear on context.

It is not the "me" or ego self that decides such things. This is the soul or higher self's bailiwick. In that context, everything is in relation to the whole. Decisions are not about what I want but what we wish. It's not really about will.

Now certainly it's true that we can fight the death process. When death appears to be an end and nothingness, fear will naturally arise and we'll resist the process. That can delay it a bit but in the larger context makes little difference. It only changes how we experience it.

Do we fight it and experience fear and pain? Or do we step into the flow and open to our larger natures, behind the veil and discover death as a blessing. Chantal exemplified the second.

Choose Your Life?

I agree that this is the usual explanation – it’s not the physical self, the little me, the ego with limited vision and understanding that “decides” where, when and how it is time to pass from this existence. If “that” self decides when and how to die, we call it suicide and make it illegal. It must be against God’s will if God was the one that decided that we should be here and experience what “he” gives us.

If God gives us a nice, warm, pleasant life, we thank him and say we are blessed and that we must have pleased him or we had evolved to a very highly conscious state.

What if we happen to be one of the millions of people that are born into poverty, abuse and terror, everyday. The same rules must apply, therefore “we” may ask them, why did you “choose” this life for yourself? Or, we may say - how are you enjoying the learning experience that your higher self or your God has given you to endure, I’d help you but it’s really your problem to work through. We may say that it just supports the evolutionary story of the survival of the fittest, and if you have the stuff necessary, you will pull yourself out of the situation – after all, some people do.

So, for those of us that believe in some kind of existence before and after this life, we can speculate on what “state” our “higher” consciousness or soul is in before birth and after death and what relationship to it we might have while we are alive. However, for a disembodied evolved soul to exist in a state where it can sit in a smoking room with a cigar and a brandy and contemplate the goings on down here on the earth and discuss it with friends, family, Angels and “God” and determine that it would like to experience what life is like being tortured and abused, it would stand-out like a sore thumb when it arrived here and would be called Jesus or Buddha.

In my view, things are much more “natural” than that. Cause and Effect and the general state of Awareness of Human Consciousness is the driving force of Attraction. We are each the expression of our own awareness of the group consciousness. To the extent that our own (souls) awareness has grown, we are faced with a field of possibilities. Each possibility opens and closes as circumstances (energy/vibration/twist) change. For an un-aware entity, the field of possibilities is relatively small and when an opening appears it is sucked in – just like in its physical life, it doesn’t even know where it is or how it got there and doesn’t recognise any choices for it to make.

A more aware entity may be able to keep itself from being attracted to the first opening, it may even be able to avoid all such openings and stay where it is. At this level, some expression of choice might appear.

At a higher level of awareness, the field of possibilities is larger, but the entity will always create a physical being that is a reflection of its level of awareness. Wherever this being turns up, it will be obviously “special”.

We are not just “individuals” creating our own experience
Just as in the physical, we are part of the whole and our experiences are influenced by the actions and energies of those around us and those distant from us. Human Group Consciousness has a strong influence, but then other reflections of consciousness also feed in. If the actions of the group dictate that we need lots of people to abuse, then any “available” entities that can’t resist that force, will be created to fill this roll. Society “says” it needs victims to make the rest of us feel good about ourselves. It says it needs enemies to fight and slaves to exploit, so they are created.

Strong minded individuals with the Will to take action to make things manifest here on earth do not need to be highly conscious or aware people or even believe in a soul or a god. They create the physical vibration into which other human entities are attracted in order to create their vision of reality. “Ask and you shall receive” – the driving force comes from the physical – we have to Choose who and what we want to be and what kind of earth we want to inhabit. God is not dictating anything and our higher self is patiently waiting for us to make contact and ask it for help and guidance. The Genie within is waiting for your wishes, and there are no limits on how many wishes you can ask for.

If YOU are not deciding, someone else is!

When humanity decides that it no longer needs people to exploit, then there won’t be any more “victims” created. The group consciousness will have risen and expanded and even the least of us will be happy and nourished and set for rapid growth. It just needs us to “consciously” choose at the physical level.

What is the evidence of these situations?

Mediums bring messages from “dead” people – these people are the same as they were when they were alive, except they are now living in a different “space” with some different laws. They didn’t become “enlightened” when they died, they simply moved to a new experience with new lessons.

Near death experiences – people find themselves in a beautiful place, usually with dead relatives and loved ones. Because they “came back”, they report being faced with a choice to either go back to earth (and typically complete a task) or move on, or they were simply told they had to go back.

Past life regression – usually under hypnosis, people are taken “back” to a time before they were born. They often report that they could see their “potential” mum and dad and that they even talked to them (in their dreams or to their soul part) to determine if this is a good-fit family situation, what their name should be, what kind of life they might experience and even when and how they would die again.

Childhood memories of “before” birth – similar stories to regressions. Some children give very detailed descriptions of who they were “before”, where they lived, their family members etc – these have often been verified as very accurate and detailed.

In the past, reincarnations would have been within the same family line or physical region or within the same culture. As the world has become more connected, the awareness of possibilities allows for a much wider “choice” of movement, both physically and culturally, and experientially.

Don’t these experiences support the idea of us choosing our physical life plan before we arrive here?

What do YOU think?

John
