Politician

Who wants to be a politician
Someone with a higher mission
A person with integrity
Lots of go and energy

Not easily diverted from the cause
Not one to seek applause
Not power for powers sake
Not set back by one mistake

Knows which problems to address
Knows how to the beat the stress
Knows how to look their best
Knows how to play the press

Everyone likes this friendly soul
Always does well in the poll
Never short of a story
Never needs to say they’re sorry

Backed by the party and the media
Stands beside the current leader
Knows what to say and what to do
To get your votes away from you

What happens next, they don’t care
Keep the protestors out of their hair
Leave it to them to make it all perfect
After four years you won’t see the defect

There’s no project plan pinned to the wall
No budget or schedule to show us all
We can’t see the target or know where we’re headed
It’s just as we thought, just as we dreaded

There is no power that these people wheeled
The people we vote for are not so well healed
There’s a system, you see, that’s been here for years
When you try to change it, it all ends in tears

They’ll break your spirit and destroy your good name
You won’t get far if you don’t play the game
The people in power have been there for years
No votes are needed, nobody’s cheers

The Men in high places plan all the moves
It doesn’t get done if they don’t approve
They have many ways to spend all our money
None of them good, none of them funny

If you want to help save the earth
What is your vote really worth
They won’t change the system that let them in
Vote for yourself and learn how to win
